Driving the 2014 Corolla S Premium will remind you of the days when you had a crush on that special someone. You’ll park the 4-door, five-seat sedan miles away from other cars in the lot so that others’ clumsiness won’t harm your baby.
You know you’ve got it bad when you park the Blue Crush Metallic-colored sedan outside your office window, point it out to co-workers and wait for their faces to light up to the magnitude of your pride. You can’t deny the appeal of the color palette offerings from Slate Metallic to Barcelona Red Metallic.
The S Premium is basically the same as the 2014 LE Eco Premium, outside of a few distinct features. The LE Eco Premium, with eco drive mode, is accented by 16” alloy wheels and P205/55R16 tires while the S Premium strikes a more imposing look boasting 17” alloy wheels with P215/45R17 tires. The latter is more fitting for the S Premium which features sports drive mode.
2014 Toyota Corolla LE Eco Premium
The Eco Premium has a 1.8, four-cylinder DOHC, 16-valve engine with valvematic technology. The S Premium offers a 1.8, four-cylinder DOHC, 16-valve dual VVT-I. Both have electric power steering, but the Eco Premium drags a little when getting on the highway. But once you’ve caught up with the traffic, it’s a solid ride. Depending on what your passengers like they may be happier with the bumpy ride of the Eco Premium or the smoother ride for the S Premium. Some people want to feel the ride. Others just want to glide. You have choices between these two Corollas. The sleek and chiselled design of both is accented by rear-deck spoilers — a hint of attitude to already attractive cars.
The Star Safety system in both feature whiplash-injury-lessening front seats, but the S Premium seats offer more of a body hug, with the sides cupping your shoulders and hips more. Not so much in the LE Eco Premium. When you turn the corner, you will slide from side to side in the seats.
Both offer a boat load of cargo space, especially with the 60/40 split fold down rear seats facilitating even more space. If you’re a college-bound Corolla owner, know that most everything you need in your dorm room will fit in your ride. All the basics that you need to enjoy your ride are there too, including the Etune Audio package and the optional multimedia bundle with navigation and app suite, AM/FM player with MP3/WMA playback capability and six speakers.
Whatever choice you make between the two Corollas, be prepared to go into crush mode.
