Review: Strike a Pose with the 2014 Lexus GX 460

You can’t help but rise above the crowd when you drive the 2014 Lexus GX 460. This luxury SUV offers a load of accessories to help you walk proudly into your 10th high school reunion if that is your stage for the day.

Runway ready, this three-row, seven-seat SUV demands you strike a pose, before strolling through the crowd. Boasting an intimidation factor reminiscent the 2014 Runner, the GX 460 takes it up a notch by providing a jazzy look with striking accents including a bold grille, 18” alloy wheels with 265/60R18 mud and snow tires. A shining star you’ll be in this SUV with automatic LED low-beam head lamps with washers, LED daytime running lights and LED fog lamps.

In colors such as “Knight’s Armor Pearl,” this 4.6-liter, V8, 32-valve, dual overhead cam with 6-speed automatic transmission, begs you to say, “take that!” to anybody who ever doubted your ambition.

You will say, “Thank you. Thank you. And thank you.” for the conveniences the GX 460 offers you and your passengers. One of my favorite features is the heated mahogany wood steering wheel. This SUV features a 3-zone automatic climate control, rain sensing wipers and windshield de-icer. Handles are appropriately placed so that you can lift yourself into the SUV. So is the release button for the gas cap. No need to bend over looking for it.

The setting allows almost everyone in the car to have control of their seat. The first-row seats have two seat control settings. The third-row seat folds down easily with buttons right at the entrance to the cargo space. No complaints from a nearly 6-foot passenger who said they had plenty of leg room in the third row!

Safety conscious drivers will truly appreciate the 10 airbags placed strategically throughout the SUV as well as Safety Connect, the automatic collision notification.

A road trip to the mountains provided a true test drive of this SUV and allowed me to try out the “sport” and “comfy” options and the vehicle stability and trailer sway control features. Lots of flexibility, but you need to make sure you understand all this SUV can do for you before you hit the road in all your boldness.

The MSRP is $60,715 for the 2014 Lexus GX 460. The MPG is 15/20 city/highway.
